Hi

On Friday night 5th Oct @ 9:30PM i listed the following on ebay. It was gaining bids but ebay removed it on Saturday morning 6th Oct @ 11:19AM:

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TICKET SCALPER'S SCALP

You are bidding on the scalps of those arseholes who purchase large quantities of tickets to popular music events on their credit cards and sell them for ridiculously inflated profits on ebay. That's right folks we are raising funds to "scalp the scalpers" and plan to track down these weeners, take off their scalps, and sell them back to them. For a profit of course.

* Missed out on RATM tix then saw them pop up for sale on ebay just minutes after Ticketmaster sold out?
* Big fan since back in the day?
* Pretty Pissed off?

Well this is just the item to make you feel better!

The scalp of the prick who stole your chance to pay respects to one of the greatest bands and rebel activist forces of our lifetime to display in your own living room.

Guaranteed to ease the pain as you wear it on your head during concert night while some sucker with more money than you is jumping up and down to Killing in the name.

Bid now to send a message to scalpers that selling concert tickets for more than their original purchase price IS NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE.

Ask yourself what Zach would do about this injustice.

rebel activist forces aren't signed to multinational conglomerate record labels.

bullshit. you gotta get the message out to as many peeps as possible and sometimes that involves using the communication channels created by the very system you rage against.

that's all you've got to say?

you cynical bastard!

they are part of the system of musical and political hegemony. they are just another cog in the bottom line for a boardroom of white male record executives. their message is highly diluted and hardly subversive - it panders to manufactured, pre-packaged teen (male) rebellion, which is a big money spinner seeings as it is this demographic that spends the most on music.

do you know what zac el la rocha did before ratm? he was a freestyle hip hop mc who was about as political as a turd. i have recordings.

ratm many use the imagery of dissent, but their lyrics are so nebulous and nonspecific may as well be talking about skateboarding and girls. "fuck you i won't do what you tell me" - their most famed lyric - fits this description well.

they are hardly the dead kennedys or even john butler (who i also hate but he's independent and can say and do what he likes on his records!).

yes i'm cynical but you sent the mail to me so that's my response.
i could go on believe me....

anyway it's ok to like what you like... fuck what i think

yes they are part of the system of musical and political hegemony and they use their position to fuel activist rebellion which is more than i can say for most popular artists. there is (a little) more to killing in the name than "fuck you i wont do what you tell me"... like "those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites"... ha ha.

i think most of their fanbase miss the point entirely still ratm provide a doorway for "teen male rebellion" to discover some important hidden truths about the world around them. check out the reading list on http://www.ratm.com/

zach inspires me to harness my anger and energy to fight for a worthwhile cause. ratm records spin big money but they play benefit shows too and give a global voice to the injustices of many suppressed peoples. so zach wasn't born a politician who gives a fuck - everyone's gotta start somewhere man.

they aint independent and underground but the music has such raw power. their signature blend of funk, hip, hop, heavy metal etc is a force to be reckoned with and gets me amped every time.

rock onward

p.s there are plenty of political turds around
